Nick Law

Pet baby Macaque and Orang Asli kid, Cameron Highlands. Feb 09.

Orang Asli is the Malay name for the indigenous people dwelling in the forest of Peninsular Malaysia and translates literally as "original people".

The kids and the monkey kept each other entertained as we looked round the village and tried our hand at shooting the darted blow pipes. The pressure put on these people from the outside world was evident. I couldn't help think that the kids were stuck in a hard situation, they communicated with and wore clothes like the tourists who passed through frequently with their money, and yet they were expected to continue living in the jungle as a 'primitive people'.

Girl and Army

Yet another absolute belter from Nick Law whilst he was traveling in the Maldives. Nick seems to be one of those fortunate people who finds himself in the right place at the right time and makes it count with shots like these. Good work Nick.

Taken In Male, the capital island of the Maldives 2008.

The Islamic law's of the Maldives are very strict, as is social pressure to conform to their faith. There is pressure for the women to dress modestly and hide their skin and hair in public. This does not apply to children however, so they, in turn, are often seen completely 'dolled up' by there mothers.

Vancouver via Russian ignorance.

Well after a weeks postponement of my flight out to Vancouver I was greeted by this ignorant pig sitting next to me. Who would shout at the Air Stewardesses "give me tea" or in a kinder fashion if you like, "give me tea, now". He then proceeded to throw all his rubbish at my feet on the floor without any hesitation. when I looked at him with what I think may have been a disapproving look, he shrugged it off with a wave of the hand as if to say 'let them deal with it,whatever'.

If you come across people like this in the future and have the chance to photograph them. send us the pictures and spiel to accompany. Some journeys are long enough far less having to put up with arseholes like this.

Girl and pigeons, Piazza San Marco, Venice. 2007.

After watching people buy small packets of pigeon food from the resident 'pigeon lady' the flying rat pack of san marco would descend in a cloud of beaks and shite, on tourists from aloft the Basilica Cattedrale. I don't know if this girl tried to eat the last of the pellets herself or if the pigeons just fancied a bit of face.

"Skaters by their very nature are urban guerillas: they make everyday use of the useless artifacts of the technological burden, and employ the handiwork of the government/corporate structure in a thousand ways that the original architects could never dream of"

A sight perhaps similar to that of the desolate airports throughout Europe after the volcano nearby the Eyjafjalajoekull glacier began erupting and projecting a heavy dosing of volcanic ash into european airspace?
